Meet Kimberly Dixon

How did you get introduced to babywearing?

Once I arrived home from the hospital with baby Emma I learned that she wouldn’t sleep without being held and rocked…Ever! After 2 sleepless days and nights of fearing that I was too tired to hold my baby any longer it occurred to me that if I had some sort of carrier, perhaps I could get her to sleep and rest my arms and shoulders and back at the same time! I said something about searching for a carrier on my Facebook page and was directed to the Babywearing Calgary page by a friend of a friend, and thus, our babywearing journey began!

How long have you been babywearing?

Since Emma was about 3 weeks old, so just over 2 months.

How has it changed your life?

Emma is calmer and more relaxed now that she is able to spend her days on mommy, and instead of worrying about not being able to fold laundry and walk the dog and sweep the floor and so on because I’m holding a baby 24/7, I have the freedom to go about my day AND bond with my baby. The other plus is that when we attend gatherings with family and friends, I can save her from hours of “pass the baby” between relatives and just let her stay with mommy by wearing her the whole time.

Have you traveled and found babywearing helped?

We haven’t traveled yet, but I can only imagine the benefits of babywearing when we do travel. Imagine not having to lug a stroller everywhere you go!

Has there been anyone in your life that has made babywearing click for you or been a big help?

All of the ladies on the Babywearing Calgary facebook page have made this journey so easy for us!  They have always got such kind words and great advice!

What is one piece of advice you would offer about babywearing?

Do it! I have found no better way to bond with my baby then being chest to chest and heart to heart with her every day.

What is your favourite carrier?

I love to wrap! We have just moved from a Boba wrap to a Moby, and just yesterday I bought a Girasol woven wrap that I’m already in love with.  I’ve also gotta shout out my Ergo Organic and my Catbird Baby Mei Tai!

What is your favourite carry?

We are still in love with the front carry, but now that my babe is getting bigger we are going to start exploring some new options soon, I’m excited to experiment with the Poppins hip carry!

If you could have any wrap/carrier (your ultimate DISO) what would it be?

I’ve fallen in love with the Tula Mockingbird woven wrap, I must have its!
